Self Builders and Earth Save Products

Earth Save Products supplies its units to more self-builders than any other company in the UK.  Self-build projects have become a speciality of ours because we recognise that self-builders face a unique set of challenges from the outset of a project through to its completion.  Along the way, the self-builder (the Client) must master many trades and make some very big choices and, for many, the greatest challenge lies in how to choose and install a robust heating and domestic hot water (DHW) system, at a sensible capital cost, that will be low cost to run and (often most important) that will enhance the green credentials of the home being constructed.  Most self-builders have a deep seated desire to build a home that will have the lowest possible carbon footprint and require a heating system, so the heating and hot water systems are of overwhelming importance to meeting this objective.  Consequently, systems that use renewable energy are high on the list of priorities for the new home that is being constructed. But, what technology is best for the particular circumstances of the new home and where can the self-builder turn to for genuine assistance and support?  Judging by the feedback from the many self-builders that we have had the pleasure to work with, Earth Save Products can deliver what is required and the heating/DHW systems need not be a strain on the project budget.

The Technology Choice

The decision of what kind of heating system to use in the new home will need to be made early on - it will be something that architects and Planning Departments will be interested in.  All systems have pros and cons and we help self-builders choose the system that is right for them and their project.  We do this without charge and on a wholly unbiased basis, even though we sell air source heat pumps.  We will always base our thoughts on what is best for the Project and the Client; not on what is best for us.  As strange as it may seem, we are proud of our record of advising Clients that they may be better served by technology that we do not sell!  Of course, we are equally as proud of our record of delivering our own technology to Clients where it is right to do so.  We sell air source heat pumps that cover central heating and DHW, solar (thermal) and all peripherals.

If we find that our technology and units are suitable for the Client, the project and will meet the Client's objectives, we will provide the best service possible to support the Client through to successful commissioning of the systems and for maintenance and advice during subsequent operation.

Unit Design

All of our units are designed to be easy to install and operate.  Our units are "hydraulically complete", which means that there is very little plumbing required to insert our units in to the new home's heating and/or DHW systems.  Simplicity of installation was a major influence in unit design and has been a feature that is much welcomed by self-builders - installing and running systems using renewable energy sources need not be complex, difficult or cost prohibited(even though most suppliers of the technology may like their customers to think this; so that customers use "supplier accredited" installers that charge many times more than what is reasonable or necessary; charges that the unit/system supplier will benefit from...).  Even when Client's choose our MCS accredited units, which mean that MCS accredited installers must be used if grant funding is sought, we work hard with the Client, our experienced installers and one of the countries largest and most respected installer accreditation houses to ensure that installation costs are kept to the lowest possible level. Even where MCS accredited installers must be used for grant purposes, there is still a lot that we can do to keep installation costs down and this is because we have designed our units to be "installer friendly".

Quality

Generally, with heat pumps, there is an inverse correlation between price and quality - this is not the case with our units because our overriding objective is to deliver value to Clients, both in terms of the units themselves and the service that accompanies them.  We take this objective very seriously and provide our units at prices that are low, sustainable and encourage their use.  There are lower priced units on the market, but their build quality and track records are very poor (the latter is also true of the companies that sell them...); unfortunately, this comment is also true of many more expensive units....

Our units are designed and equipped with all main components from leading West European and Japanese suppliers.  The quality of the build ensures that self-builders can have absolute confidence in the longevity of our units, as well as the availability of spare parts over the life of the units.  For the most part, self-builders are very practical people that prefer to maintain their heating systems themselves.  In the very unlikely event that something does go wrong with a unit, the availability of spare parts is crucial - good quality components are much easier to replace than cheap components because design tolerances are so much more accurate and reliable.  Also, good quality components are always readily available as spares (and we do stock spares).

Cost

From the outset of a project, the self builder is faced with a multitude of heating systems that could be used - some very good and many not so good...  Upon initial research, all systems/units may appear to cost a lot of money and the vast majority of suppliers appear to be interested only in making a sale rather than taking the time and putting in the effort to ensure that what is being sold is right for the Client's home and budget.  The self-builder will, inevitably, talk to a number of potential suppliers and collect a pile of brochures that would be enough to sink an oil tanker or cost a rain forest to produce!  So, in general, not a very encouraging landscape to start with...

From the first contact with Clients, we provide accurate and comprehensive information, in a language that is clear and helpful.  We are happy to take as much time as necessary, at any point in a self-build project, to ensure that the Client fully understands the heating options available and way the systems and units work.  At the same time, this process allows us to get a better understanding of the Client's primary objectives and to understand the level of support that may be required.

On the cost of the units, we have no doubt that our units represent the best value available on the market - our prices are as good as our service and our service is excellent (that is the view of Clients, not "sales puff").  Our units can be compared with those of competitors and Clients find, without exception, that what we are selling is technically superior and much more affordable than similar specification/build quality units.

Track Record

We are always happy to provide names and contact details of existing Clients and self-builders so that you can check out that what we are saying is true.

We sell our units across Europe; in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Romania and have sold thousands of units.

Service

Along with our prices, superior specification and build quality, our service and support is what differentiates us from all other suppliers - We are absolutely committed to ensuring that any self-builder gets a level of support that he or she is comfortable with.  We do not mind how much time we spend, the number of emails or telephone calls that we get - we offer support 7 days a week and "out of hours" - we do not charge for this support and assistance as we are as committed to the success of your project as you are. Also, if a Client requires site visits during installation or commissioning, we look to cover only our cost of visiting.

We know that Self-builders will require support and assistance - more so than trade Clients.  We are happy to provide support and assistance throughout the technology selection, unit purchase and installation process.  Clients are provided with telephone support from highly qualified and experienced installers that can communicate very effectively over the telephone.  This ability to provide remote support and assistance to self-builders is something that has developed over the years and is not something that can be done without extensive experience of delivering such a service - knowledge of the units alone is not adequate as it is essential to understand the systems as well and the practical challenges that self-builders face.  We are available 7 days a week and we provide contact numbers, that cover "out of hours", so that self-build Clients can readily access support from technical specialists that have a minimum of 20 years experience in the field - again, we charge nothing for this support as we believe that it is a core element of working with self-builders, most of whom do not work to office hours on their project and who need experienced and practical support.

Before progressing with buying any units from us, Clients are are also very welcome to come and see our live air source heat pump heating and DHW demonstration system - we feel it important that self-builders have the opportunity to see and hear our units running in real systems.  It also provides us with the opportunity to share practical information on installing the units and the demonstration system is invaluable in doing this.  This facility has been very popular with self-builders and many have used the opportunity to take photographs of the system, as installed.  We know that self-builders may be with us for a good few hours on any visit to see the demonstration system and we make sure that we are available for as long as may be required; this reinforces our commitment to self-build project success.

We have also made many friends because of the time we spend with Clients - some of our Clients are already on their second self build project with us and one is already talking about his third!  We have self-build Clients from all over the country (and some from Europe that come to the UK for holidays) that still pop in for a cup of tea a long time after they have completed their projects and it is always great to hear how well our units are working and how much money clients have saved.  Above all, it is extremely rewarding to know that we have played a significant role in delivering a new home or renovating an older home.

Commitment

One thing that separates us from all of our competitors is our commitment to our Client's projects.  We believe that, if a self-builder gives us the opportunity to become involved in his/her project to build or renovate their home, then we have to show the same commitment to the project as the Client.  We understand that we are being invited in to Client's homes and lives and that this comes with great responsibility We take our obligations very seriously and we afford Clients and their projects the highest level of respect, endeavour and commitment - Client's/self-builder's projects become our own projects from the outset to which we deliver quality, value and exceptional support and assistance through our experienced and tireless personnel.

Overall, if our units are chosen by a self builder, we become a partner in the project being built.  Most importantly, our interests in the project are the same as the Client's interests and we understand that we are helping to build the Client's home, not just being involved in the project.  This is what makes us unique - selling the units is only one small part of a long term commitment to the Client and the home that is being built.

We sell our range of air source heat pumps, solar thermal panels, our unique Ecocent DHW unit (combined heat pump and hot water cylinder designed also to accept solar loop via a second coil in the cylinder), fan coils, twin coil cylinders, tank in tank cylinders buffer tanks and ducts, piping and essential safety valves and devices for our Ecocent unit.  We also sell all peripherals such as solar stations and controls, duocore twin pipe preinsulated pipe for use with solar panels, fittings, swimming pool air source heat pumps, etc.  We carry all of our units in stock, so there is no waiting for delivery.

It is our understanding, technical capability and knowledge base that we can of share with self builders that makes our company truly unique.  Also, our units' performance, our unwavering commitment to assisting and supporting self builders and our understanding of the whole building process that puts us out on our own and in the highest league.
